Another coffin drawn by black horses creaks across the screen at the start of this goodish mystery-drama set in Germany. In a film as full of twists and turns as a helter-skelter - all heavy underlined by a pseudo-Teutonic score - few of those involved are what they might seem to be, especially the tenant of the coffin. As the hero, Stanley Baker gives the part a good tough-guy quality, if nothing more. The best performance comes from Eric Portman as the crooked police chief. Or is he? Quentin Lawrence's direction shows pace and an occasional touch of imagination.
