The totally unexpected box-office success of this slight romantic Arabian Nights adventure shot Bernie Schwartz, alias Mr Curtis, and Rosetta Jacobs, alias Miss Laurie, to stardom. Both proved themselves capable actors in later days, Curtis notably in Sweet Smell of Success and Miss Laurie in The Hustler. Another look at The Prince Who Was a Thief today, reveals it to be a bit short on action, but Piper really was a pretty package, and it was worth the price of admission to see her slithering through a maze of iron bars. Former cameraman Rudolph Mate directs it all in stylish Technicolor.
