US naval lieutenant Gary Cooper sinks in the shallows of one of his least interesting roles from his best period. He plays a US naval lieutenant who takes command of a temperamental new patrol boat, the USS Teakettle - this airy-fairy service comedy's original title. The cast come to the rescue of a daft story, even without much in the way of funny dialogue. Hooray for Eddie Albert, Ray Collins, Jack Webb, plus Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson (billed here as Buchinsky) in their debuts. In this company, and without anyone to double-cross, femme fatale Jane Greer looks like a fish out of water.
