James Woods won universal acclaim and a Best Actor Emmy (TV Oscar) for his starring role in this TV movie about the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. Bill Wilson is a high-rolling, hard-drinking stockbroker who lives the good life. Then the Stock Market crashes in 1929 - and so does he. As Bill, Woods exudes pain and self-confidence at the same time, and a final scene at an AA meeting when he reaches out to help someone just starting out on the road to recovery will have you clutching at the tissues. Touching and honest, this is American TV filmmaking at something close to its very best.
