That 100 per cent reliable, but only 40 per cent exciting character actor star Craig T Nelson gives a sombre, hangdog but dignified turn as an ageing motorbike racer having a midlife crisis. Helen Shaver suffers in a passive part as Nelson's love interest, a single mother with a critically ill son (Bradley Pierce) who's sports mad and latches on to Nelson. If you turn a blind eye to the script's manipulations and moralisings, this sentimental drama is bearable but never thrilling, even in the supposedly nailbiting finish of the bike race the hero is determined to win.
