Hard-boiled is right. If you thought the Hollywood films of Hong Kong director John Woo were tough and fast-moving, take a look at what he was doing before moving from East to West. Gun battles, explosions, car chases - this all-action thriller doesn't ever stop for breath. The Far East's top tough guy hero Chow Yun-Fat plays a cop out to shut down the gun-running trade run by Tony (Anthony Wong). The storyline isn't stunningly original, but that doesn't matter, the action's the thing. Violent, yes (a body count of about 300 puts the likes of Willis, Schwarzenegger and Stallone in the shade), but visually stunning and undeniably exciting.
