This easy-going drama stars Kris Kristofferson as honest Texas Ranger Rip Metcalf, who is after a serial murderer of teenage girls. Due to overcrowding at the prison, Metcalf is entrusted with the custody of safecracker and con man Billy Roy Barker (Willie Nelson) for three days before his trial. But as Metcalf continues his search for the murderer, Barker's knowledge of the criminal mentality proves to be an unexpected bonus. Rip Torn puts in a memorable performance as a grizzled, retired Texas Ranger, while director Aaron Lipstadt's sure-footed direction keeps the plot bubbling along.
