Middling spy-versus-spy tale much tinkered with by its producers, in such a fashion as to make director Allan S Goldstein take his name off the film. Certainly they didn't improve the ending, although the screenplay has some good moments on the way to that disappointing climax. Martin Sheen and Michael Ontkean provide grim-jawed leads, but Beverly D'Angelo's undoubted singing abilities hardly get as good a showcase here as they did in Coal Miner's Daughter.
