The second of the 'incident' telemovies, set in the Forties, is nowhere near as good as the first and leans even more heavily on the dog-eared charm of Walter Matthau as the small-town lawyer capable of carving his way through bureaucratic mazes to right injustices. Bored with a assignment in Maryland, Matthau leaps at the chance of involving himself in the case of a girl who committed herself to psychiatric care and now cannot get released. Matthau's flinty turn just about keeps the interest sparking to the end.
