The tragedy that hit successful US TV sitcom writers Roxy and Vinnie Ventola is the subject of this real-life AIDs drama. They try for a baby for years, and finally are rewarded with Miranda, a beautiful baby girl. But their intense joy is short-lived: the child develops AIDs; and it turns out that Roxy had been given an infected blood transfusion after a miscarriage. Although less than gripping at the start, the movie grabs you around half-way through as the Ventolas get to the core of what lies before them. From then on, the dialogue is very well paced, complemented by strong performances from both Madigan and Boutsikaris, so that you forgive the odd unhappy digression into obvious political messages. Jane Daly, as the family friend, also makes a solid contribution to this moving drama.
