Something of a curio, this film is more interesting for who's in it rather than what it's about. David Bowie heads a cast that includes Kim Novak, Maria Schell, Curt Jurgens and, in her last screen role, Marlene Dietrich. Director David Hemmings also makes an appearance. Bowie plays a Prussian officer at large in Twenties Berlin who seems to almost drift into becoming a gigolo. Apart from his encounters with various ladies, that's it, really. Mind you, it's worth sitting through just to see Marlene as an imperious baroness. She also sings the title song. Made with great style by Hemmings, the film doesn't have much content and what there is can sometimes be a little confusing. Perhaps the original 147-minute version made more sense.
