A good cast headed by Lauren Holly works hard here, but a plot which promises some nail-biting tension is pushed beyond its limits by director Michael Scott, under whose hand events seem far too contrived and, ultimately, impossible to believe. Somewhere there's a big-budget Hollywood movie struggling to get out of this story of a drugs dealer who woos the widow of the man he murdered in the hopes that she will lead him to hidden loot. The director's under-achievement, though, and the overwrought performances he extracts mean the remake'll probably never see the light of day. Still the pace is lively so at least you're unlikely to drop off.
