Melanie Griffith has made some bizarre choices of role in her time, but not many weirder than in this futuristic fantasy which casts her as a desert tracker in 2017 who must help the lovelorn hero (David Andrews) get a replacement for his robot sex object (the Cherry 2000 of the title) from an obscure region of 'The Zone' guarded by a psychotic villain and his gang. Griffith is the best thing in this genuine oddball movie which could almost have sprung from a previous decade, although the project strangely attracted a number of well-known players, including Ben Johnson, Tim Thomerson, Pamela Gidley, Larry Fishburne, Brion James and Harry Carey Jr. The public, however, were more cautious, and stayed away in droves.
