James Spader enjoys a rare blockbuster role as a boffin who solves the missing link to open a teleportation gate to a distant world ruled over by tyrannical alien Ra (androgynous Jaye Davidson from The Crying Game), who threatens to destroy Earth. Kurt Russell is every inch the square-jawed military team leader with his own secret agenda for the mission through the Stargate. Top production values, seamless effects, huge sets, armies of extras and even a human-alien love story are thrown into the enjoyable mix.
