Father Hood

Patrick Swayze plays a smalltime crook unhappy with the way his children are being treated at a city-run institution…so he kidnaps them at gunpoint from the school bus. Heading off on an unscheduled road trip, Swayze fights rednecks, his kids and also takes time out to call LA reporter Halle Berry, who originally reported the abduction. It's a genial affair, enlivened by support from the likes of Diane Ladd as Swayze's mother.

This amiable romantic comedy sees small-time criminal Jack Charles (Patrick Swayze) saddled with being a dad when his daughter Kelly (Sabrina Lloyd) runs away from her miserable foster home.

Jack is forced to take Kelly and her brother on the run in an action-packed and largely comical cross-country chase.

Screen idol Swayze comes across well as the tough hoodlum with a soft centre, and some decent laughs help offset the occasionally intrusive sentimentality. Reasonable fun.
