Tough telefilm starring Alfre Woodard in powerhouse form as the LA attorney who quits that city's troubled streets with her teenage son, only to find herself embroiled in a case in New Orleans whose ramifications are as unpleasant and sensationalistic as anything she could have expected to encounter in California. Co-star Mario Van Peebles is stronger than usual as the detective father the boy has never known and director Karen Arthur gives the distasteful can of worms uncovered by Woodard a stylish, smoky feel. No tidy endings here, which will probably displease thriller fans even if it's more like real life.
