Jim Carrey seems wisely to have ignored that motto about never acting with children or animals, since a talented Jack Russell terrier provides him with the ideal partner in this fun action fantasy about a nobody who becomes the amalgam of all his favourite cartoon characters when he dons an old mask he finds floating in a river. Once the mask has wound itself round his head, he goes from zero to hero as a man about town with the power of cartoon character movement. Soon he's flexing his green complexion on the bad guys, while romancing their blonde moll (talented Cameron Diaz). Pitched at a hectic pace, this vehicle for Carrey and his dog is studded with funny moments.
