Muppet Treasure Island

Jennifer Saunders and Billy Connolly can't compete with Muppets ranging from the Swedish chef to Kermit in this musical version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure tale. Though aimed at the anklebiters, there's some salty adult stuff in here and it's ably managed by Brian Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim.

Yo-ho-ho! After successfully putting their own slant on Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, the colourful, crazy Muppets send up Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate classic as only they can.

The Great Gonzo and Rizzo the rat take centre-stage in a tale of buried treasure and angry warthogs, while Jennifer Saunders, Billy Connolly and Tim Curry head the human cast.

But they can't really compete with 101 different kinds of cloth-headed co-stars, with every Muppet character from the Swedish chef to Kermit getting a look in.

Being a Muppet adventure, there are several songs, with Cabin Fever a showstopper that would make Busby Berkeley Kermit-green with envy.

Surprisingly, many of the jokes are aimed at an adult audience, but the film still has all-round family appeal.

Especially funny is a running gag featuring a group of water-surfing margarita-swilling rats who pay Rizzo to join the ship on a world cruise.

The breezy direction is in the capable hands of Brian Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim Henson.
