Kurt Russell looks understandably glum - maybe from seeing the script's unspeakable dialogue and the tricky hard-man action stunts he's got to perform - throughout this unbelievably basic but still tense-at-times action thriller, set aboard a 747 beset by the usual terrorist-hijacker suspects.
Steven Seagal looks even glummer, but then that's more understandable as he's got only 20 minutes of screen time before the writers have a surprise in store.
Kurt and Steven join the plane in best James Bond undercover style, and take on the bad guys with the help of Halle Berry (the bravest and most vacuous 747 stewardess since Karen Black in Airport 1975).
Though pitched somewhere between the preposterous and the ludicrous, this fast and furious ride somehow manages to entertain in its truly undemanding comic-book way.
No Oscars, but Seagal was nominated as worst supporting actor in the year's Golden Raspberry Awards.
