A film set in the 17th century, some years before the Dutch arrival on the Pacific's mysterious Easter Island. Director Kevin Reynolds conjures up a vision of the island's two tribes, the Long Ears and the Short Ears, holding a dangerous race to decide whether a member of one sect can marry one from the other. Shot on location on the island and in Australia, the film looks good and the score is by The Police's Stewart Copeland; however, the difficulty the movie never quite seems to overcome lies in recreating the daily lifestyle of a people we know virtually nothing about.
