Beware the airhead with ambition. Nicole Kidman is beautiful but deadly as the Barbie doll from hell in this blackest of comedies. Suzanne (Kidman) spots handsome Larry (Matt Dillon) playing drums at a disco, and sets her cap at him. She uses her good looks to get a job as a local TV weathergirl as a step towards becoming a national personality. When Larry decides she should stay at home and have babies, the emotionless Suzanne sees a student (Joaquin Phoenix) with a crush on her as the answer to a maiden's prayer for hubby's removal. A few sags contribute to the film's slight overlength, but overall this is a work of no small achievement with a terrific ending.
