Sweeping period drama set in early 20th-century Montana. The three sons of a retired colonel come into conflict when they meet a beautiful woman.

An epic of the Far West where no lasting happiness awaits any of the characters, with the added joy of James Horner's sweeping music.

Anthony Hopkins, is the horse rancher in the Montana wilds with three sons: the oldest, law-abiding Alfred (Aidan Quinn), young, idealistic Samuel (Henry Thomas) and the middle son Tristan (Brad Pitt), a man of the earth.

The catalyst for tragedy is Susannah (Julia Ormond), initially Samuel's fiancée but, this being a romantic epic, loved by all three brothers and drawn to Tristan, the most basic.

Tragedy sets in when the boys all go off to fight in World War One, leaving Susannah on the ranch with their father.

The rest of the film shows a family struggling to forgive and move on, where loyalties are confused.

Impressive scenery and performances, especially from Aidan Quinn.

To my recollection there have been only two films that have made me cry in the cinema, ET and this. Strangely both feature Henry Thomas, weird huh? Legends has been described as a 'romantic epic' before now. I feel it is nothing of the sort, a harrowing and disturbing tale of divided loyalties and the darker more destructive nature of love (or maybe lust?) The quality of the acting, from all players is nothing short of outstanding. Also, prepare yourself for the most horrifying death scene ever.

A fantastic film. Good cinematography. Good film locations. The actors deeply conveyed the message of the film, likewise displaying good acting and interpretations of the script. The Director did a very good job on the film and I greatly commend him for arraying such a good cast for the film. The film deserves an award. Well an attestation to the astonishing acting is the recent lead part given to Brad Pittn in Troy.

I think that this is one of the best films ever made. With its beautiful cast and excellent acting it is a force to be reckoned with. Tony Hopkins makes the films touching and the storylines have you crying from 20 minutes in and not being able to stop till the final credits. This is by far some of Brad Pitt's finest work to date, and shows his capablity at being able to play explosive dramatic parts to the fullest.
