Dad (Harvey Keitel) is a well-meaning dreamer, forever in debt and cooking up dodgy get-rich schemes, left to bring up teen Sonya (Fairuza Balk) and her younger sister Greta (Elisabeth Moss) after the death of his wife (Kelly Lynch). Set in the Sixties, this ordinary coming-of-age tale is distinguished by excellent performances from Keitel, Balk and (briefly) Lynch. The Oregon setting, with the family's succession of grotty homes, is also thoroughly convincing.
