Winner of the special jury prize in the gay Teddy Bear Awards at the Berlin Film Festival, this dark documentary from video artist John Maybury looks at how gays see themselves together with the opposite view from the outside world. Many subjects are covered in rapid-fire delivery, everything from AIDS to drugs, rape, transgender experiences, S&M sex to gay-bashing, alongside footage of Derek Jarman alumini Tilda Swinton and gay actor Rupert Everett (with a shaven-head) speaking direct to camera in a lampoon of American twin-anchor news broadcasts. Subtitled `True stories visual lies', the film cost a minisule $25,000, and makes dazzling buse of colour and Marvin Black's hypnotic music. A true oddity.
