Suspend your disbelief and you will find the tears welling up in this family drama. Cybill Shepherd and John Heard star as Julie and Greg, a couple who are delighted about her pregnancy - especially as their first child was abducted and never found. Meanwhile at the school where she teaches, Julie is preoccupied with a particularly difficult teenager, the withdrawn and rebellious Jessie (Scott Bairstow). You will soon cotton on to the coincidence here, but under Mimi Leder's firm direction there are some strong and moving scenes, with thoughtful performances from Shepherd and Heard. And as the truculent youth, Bairstow is terrific.
