Brisk, punchy, strongly cast post-war thriller full of unsmiling characters and double crosses and giving Tony Curtis the best of his early roles - one that would see him rise to stardom the following year. Good-bad guy Dan Duryea and laconic John McIntire easily steal the acting honours from taciturn hero Howard Duff.
