Christina Ricci, now an adult star, appears in one of the last of her 'child actress' roles here. She's Beth, who moves house from the big city to the rustic North West and finds it hard to fit in. Then she makes a new friend in Jody (Anna Clumsky), who's viewed as a bit of a rough kid and a liar. Jody gets Beth to accompany her on a mad trek to find 'Molly Morgan's gold' in local mountain caves, during which the girls fall into a great deal of danger - though the film's focus swings round again later on to Jody's bad reputation and her mother's violent boyfriend. The adventures during the gold search are a bit implausible.
