A jolly if perhaps not riotously amusing reprise of the famous Fifties TV series. With Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd as acceptable substitutes for Phil Silvers and Paul Ford, director Jonathan Lynn keeps the fun simple and the characters the caricatures they were in the original. Master Sgt Ernie Bilko is the real power behind the throne at the Fort Baxter US army base. In charge of any gambling racket going, Bilko's motorpool misfits live a life of Riley - until old enemy Col Thorn (Phil Hartman) comes on the scene. Thorn is determined to hang Bilko from the nearest yardarm but the sergeant is as adept at slipping his neck from the noose as in leaving his ever-loving girlfriend (Glenne Headly) at the altar. The results run much like an elongated episode of the TV show: fast, noisy, easy on the eye and occasionally even funny.
