This modern-day update of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1965 TV movie musical (itself an update of the original 1957 version starring Julie Andrews) was immensely popular with US viewers when first broadcast in 1997. Made under the guidance of Disney by Whitney Houston's own production company, it features the then-hottest thing of the moment, one Brandy Norwood (as Cinderella), a poplet billed as, yes, the new Whitney Houston (who herself appears as the Fairy Godmother). It's a lavish multiracial rendition of the classic rags-to-riches fairytale and features Whoopi Goldberg as the Prince's mom. Well worth a look.
