Keanu Reeves gets back into the kind of thriller in which his fans will pay to see him, as a research worker on a project to harness hydrogen for clean energy.
No sooner has this reached fruition than mysterious figures move in on its headquarters, murder the project's associate leader and make off with certain specifications, as the lab blows up behind them.
Unfortunately, these are useless without the 'frequencies' that control them - and guess who has those? Right!
The plot gets pottier, so don't worry about it. Just enjoy the action set-pieces, which include some hair-raising stuff on a dividing bridge and a desperate battle in an unoccupied house.
The script is mostly forgettable, but for the occasional gem - as Weisz and Reeves board a Gentle Ben-style hovercraft, Weisz asks her cohort "What are you doing!?"
"The best I can!" responds the portly looking Reeves.
Not quite the movie that the pair would go on to make 8 years later - Constantine - but a sturdy thriller all the same.
Keanu runs forever; but laconic Morgan Freeman walks away with the film.
