Glenn Ford plays an impoverished country preacher at odds with the deacons of his church and the local sheriff in this low-key but quite effective drama. That the film works is largely thanks to the performances of Ford, Julie Harris (as his wife) and Lance Kerwin (as his son). The story's pretty predictable and the script only so-so but this is nevertheless a pleasant enough watch.
