This minor gem from the American independent film sector is a most intriguing black comedy, perhaps best seen as a compelling showcase for a slew of fine young actors, some of whom have gone on to even better things: Cameron Diaz, Annabeth Gish, Courtney B Vance and Jason Alexander, as well as Ron Eldard and Jonathan Penner. The provocative premise has five graduates enjoying their weekly date entertaining a guest stranger - this week right-wing patriot Bill Paxton, whose racist statements lead to a fatal fight. The actors enjoy the unusual luxury of lots of fine, witty dialogue, propelling an intelligent movie that's as amusing as it is thought-provoking, staking its claim to a deserved wider audience. Ron Perlman and Charles Durning are standouts among the star guests.
