A good cast adds interest to this efficiently-made murder mystery set in California. Mary McDonnell plays Teri, found by the local sheriff out in the desert by the gutted wreck of her car, inside which is the body of her husband Allan (Randy Quaid). Did he really die from the fire, or from the bullet lodged in his brain? Where are CSI when you need them? Enter local lawyer Ross Bishop (Sam Elliott), landed with defending Teri on a charge of murder. Cue flashbacks revealing Teri and Allan's turbulent marriage. In the end, a jury has to decide... Despite McDonnell's admirable efforts, it is hard to sympathise with Teri's character, as she seems to have few redeeming features. However, Quaid and Elliott add considerable dramatic weight to the proceedings and there are enough surprises in store to keep your attention. Not suitable for younger viewers.
