The actress is best known for her role as Buffy's sister Dawn in the hit American TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Trachtenberg, who won a Young Artist Award for her work on Buffy, had the privilege of speaking the last word in the series.
She began acting at the age of three when she appeared in a TV commercial and starred in the daytime drama All My Children.
She made her big screen debut aged 10 in the title role of Harriet The Spy opposite Rosie O'Donnell and won a Young Artist Award for the role.
In 1999, she starred in Inspector Gadget with Matthew Broderick and also appeared in the comedy drama Can't Be Heaven with Diane Ladd.
TV work includes a recurring role in Six Feet Under and Law & Order.
In 2004, she starred in the gross-out comedy Eurotrip and the drama Mysterious Skin with Elisabeth Shue.
