This is a touching little drama about a middle-aged mother (Ann-Margret), coping with her adolescent son (Corbin Allred) and the fact that their relationship has worsened since he was left partially deaf by an accident. She tries to make amends by relocating to Arizona, but, once there, she falls in love with a gruff local (Kris Kristofferson), who has a hidden past. This, of course, enrages the son even further and his behaviour begins to threaten everyone's happiness. Although the story isn't exactly original, the strong performances of the leads and confident direction by Peter Werner lift this well above the routine.
