When Carrey’s character literally beats himself up in the bathroom, the sound effects are all very real – those are the sounds of Carrey’s head hitting the sink, urinal etc.
A goofy and generally funny comedy that gets wilder and less resistible as it goes on. Lecherous, lying lawyer Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is the despair of his ex-wife (Maura Tierney) as he never arrives on time to see his adoring son Max, since he's always in bed with a client - well, one way or another. All this changes when Max makes a wish on his fifth birthday that his dad will be unable to lie for 24 hours.

Not many of the comic possibilities of this are missed, especially when Carrey feels impelled to insult the entire board of directors at his firm, or has to represent a busty blonde (Jennifer Tilly) seeking her husband's assets in a divorce case. The star has a field day; as a kind of lascivious Jerry Lewis he's all over the place, notably when beating himself to a pulp to try to get out of a court appearance. Carrey-haters will quickly become irritated with it, but go with the flow and you could find Liar Liar funny funny.
