The half dozen very funny scenes in this wildly successful comedy are more than you might expect from what is basically a one-joke idea.
Six workless Sheffield men of all shapes, sizes, ages, colour and sexual orientation see the Chippendales coining in money and decide to do a strip show of their own to raise some much-needed funds.
Cheerful co-operation from the actors concerned, led by the diminutive Robert Carlyle, makes the most of the scattered funny moments: the sextet, for example, can only learn to move in a line abreast by imitating the Arsenal offside trap.
A rather long 91 minutes ensues, but at least you can't accuse this film with a serious underlying message of lacking a sense of humour.
Anne Dudley won an Academy Award for its music score.
