Cynics could be forgiven for seeing this mild little romantic comedy as an attempt to fashion another Four Weddings and a Funeral. Why, it even has an American leading lady (Con Air's Monica Potter) and a chap with dark curly hair who swears all the time. He's Rufus Sewell (who seemed to be everywhere in British films at the time) as one of three friends who all independently fall for Monica within 24 hours when she flies in to make a new life. The performances (the others are Joseph Fiennes, looking quite like brother Ralph here, and Tom Hollander) are all quite ingratiating without actually coming into the star-making bracket, although for Fiennes that was just around the corner. A twist involving Ray Winstone's unlikely psychiatrist is the most amusing thing in the film.
