Now there's convoluted and there's convoluted. But this is really too much. Battered and beaten by a bewildering series of revelations and double-crosses in the last reel, even the hardened mystery fan will have to concede defeat to the infernally complex plot of this very black thriller, even if, by the end, with no sympathetic characters at all, he can hardly be bothered to care. School guidance counsellor Matt Dillon is accused of raping spoiled rich dish Denise Richards. Local junkie tramp Neve Campbell also accuses him of raping her but, under astute lawyer Bill Murray, the case collapses in court, with Dillon receiving a sizeable slice from the fortune of Richards' mum (Theresa Russell). Cop Kevin Bacon smells conspiracy. Who came into the plot at what stage and was attempting to do what to whom while keeping whom in the dark is something the film tries to gloss over in a series of explanation scenes through the end credits. Entertaining it is, but too clever by at least half.
