Some people laughed when Keanu Reeves tried to flex his acting muscles in this intriguing, dark-toned, bitter-sweet romantic drama that oozes with unfulfilled potential and proved a clinker at the box-office. But, fair's fair: Keanu gives a pretty able turn as a petty crook who falls for his brother Vincent D'Onofrio's bride Cameron Diaz when he turns up at their wedding after being away for 20 years. The actors fail to show enough of the charisma that's required of them but they deliver performances of considerable power, and the strange, twisty story pulls you in to the characters, making you really care what happens to them. Look upon it as a half-success rather than a half-failure and you may find yourself warming to it.
