The former TV stalwart made his big screen directorial debut with the bittersweet British comedy Girl's Night in 1998.
The movie starred Julie Walters and Brenda Blethyn as a cancer sufferer who head for Las Vegas for a holiday.
Hurran started out in British TV, directing light entertainment shows such as Telly Addicts, Frank Stubbs Promotes and Boon.
Next up on the big screen was the teenage comedy Virtual Sexuality about a girl who creates her perfect man in a virtual reality machine.
In 2001, the Wales-set Plots with a View boasted an all-star cast including Brenda Blethyn, Alfred Molina, Naomi Watts and Christopher Walken.
He went on to make his American debut with the romantic drama Little Black Book, starring Brittany Murphy and Holly Hunter.
