The former model's breakthrough role came relatively late at 33 - as vampire Mina Harker in the big screen adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Growing up an army brat all over the Pacific area, she spent summers in Australia with her grandparents.
She moved to Los Angeles to study acting with Arthur Mendoza, a protege of Stella Adler.
She made her feature debut in the forgettable Sadness of Sex in 1995 and subsequent roles followed in televsion movies.
In 1997, she starred in the crime thriller One of Our Own and raised her profile with the drama Mercy with Ellen Barkin and Julian Sands.
American TV work - including A Girl Thing -followed before she got the call from Stephen Norrington to appear in the LXG.
