This very low-budget grunge movie is the project of actor Vincent Gallo, who directs, stars, co-writes and even composed the music. He plays an unprepossessing individual who, just out of jail, kidnaps a girl (Christina Ricci) and gets her to pose as his wife on a visit to his parents (Ben Gazzara, Anjelica Huston). The plot completely falls apart, though, on the fact that any normal girl would drive off at 60 mph as soon as Gallo stops to take a leak. Slow to the point of inertia, the film has muffled sound and muted performances, save that of Ricci, who finds subtleties that aren't really in the script. There's a happy ending for those still awake, and blunder-spotters will appreciate the scene where Gallo strips to his pants to get in a bath and is later seen there wearing a vest he clearly never had.
