A businesslike revamp of Dial M for Murder, this grows less like the original as it goes on, until it's difficult to tell who was plotting what against whom.
Shady financier Michael Douglas finds heiress wife Gwyneth Paltrow is having an affair, at the same time as his business starts slipping down the tubes.
When he discovers her lover (Viggo Mortensen) is a twice-convicted con-man, Douglas hires him to kill Gwyneth for $500,000.
As in the original, the 'killer' is duly dispatched by the wife but - surprise number one - it isn't Mortensen.
A good thriller, but no masterpiece.
