A cop killer is found not guilty, so the detective who arrested him takes the law into his own hands. Holding the judge, jury and defendant hostage, the cop retries the case. The plot of this thriller challenges credulity but writer/director Heywood Gould is making a point about the poor state of the American legal system here. He manages to hit most of the right emotional targets, too, as, despite the improbabilities in the story, you are on the cop's side all the way. What also helps is Bill Pullman's fine performance as Steve Donahue, the detective who feels it's him who's on trial rather than the killer. Worth watching.
