Despite its utter predictability, this romantic weepie has warmth and genuine heart and strikes all the right emotional chords before the end. Richard Chamberlain plays a federal agent who eventually has to arrest the brother of the woman he loves, severing their relationship. The embers are rekindled when he returns to her (particularly picturesque) neck of the woods 20 years later - and she has a secret which will be a mystery to no one who's seen this kind of effectively sentimental drama before. Karen Allen is perfectly cast as the woman involved - she draws your sympathy to her - while Hal Holbrook does his familiar rumble-toned act as her favourite uncle, whose imminent demise brings about Chamberlain's return. One to curl up with on a cold afternoon.
