The first feature-length update of a Sixties TV series (more were to follow), with 87-year-old EG Marshall reprising his role as crack defence attorney Lawrence Preston. As his legal eagle son, Beau Bridges replaces Robert Reed, while Martha Plimpton joins the family lawyer team as Lawrence's grand-daughter. This time, they have the tricky task of defending Michael Lane (John Larroquette) who has murdered his daughter's rapist and is released from jail after a short sentence. Interesting moral issues are raised in a literate script, and Marshall still has the stuff. Only Plimpton lets the side down a bit with her rather strident performance.
