Mark Wahlberg makes his mark as a well-endowed lad who progresses in the US porn movie industry of the late Seventies as Dirk Diggler. Julianne Moore also scores as druggie costar Amber Waves, Heather Graham is Rollergirl and Burt Reynolds gives his best latter-day turn as veteran porn director Jack Horner. A murky, quirky saga, dynamically told by director Paul Thomas Anderson, this is a magnificent movie. Reynolds did research by observing real porn sets: the performers all asked him how to get an actors' union card.
