Based on George Orwell's Thirties-set comic novel, this movie has Richard E Grant as copywriter Gordon Comstock and Helena Bonham Carter as his girlfriend Rosemary. Fed up with his routine work, Gordon resigns to become a poet and live as a true artist in near destitution. A satire on class, values, art and money, the film strays from Orwell's original bitter tone but has Grant putting in a powerful comic turn, peppered with witty remarks.
