Len Deighton's Secret Service agent Harry Palmer is back (Michael Caine again) following on from Billion Dollar Brain, this time in a new post-Cold War Russia, virtually run by the Mafia. Harry's asked by the mysterious Alex (Michael Gambon) to recover a powerful biological weapon, Alorax, which has been stolen and sold off - but Palmer is not the only one on the trail. Another deadly mission full of twists and turns, though not as powerful as its predecessors and missing their distinctive tone.
